BOSTON, MA, (December 3, 2020)—Rich Horgan, Founder & President of Cure Rare Disease™ (CRD), has been recognized by ‘Forbes 30 under 30’ in the Healthcare category for 2021, a nod to his leadership in the groundbreaking development of customized therapeutics for those who have been diagnosed with rare, genetic diseases with no treatment or cures, starting with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

Horgan’s younger brother, Terry, has been battling DMD for more than two decades, and the standard “one-size-fits-all” approach to drug development has failed him, their family, and thousands of others who have been left behind with no hope for the future—until now. While putting himself through business school, Horgan became determined to apply his developing entrepreneurial sensibilities to help Terry and millions of others—and built Cure Rare Disease from the ground up.

Today, he leads an ecosystem composed of world-class researchers, geneticists, clinicians, and industry partners who are using revolutionary CRISPR gene-editing technology to build life-saving therapeutics that are custom to each patient they are made to treat. Terry is the first individual planned for clinical trial pending FDA approval in 2021, with a subsequent patient cohort advancing from an earlier stage, in parallel, with treatment to follow.

Horgan is honored with this accolade alongside prestigious entrepreneurs who are teaching viruses to fight cancer, developing technology to help astronauts breathe on Mars, and creating strings of hit songs that fuel our daily playlists. Harnessing an expert community, robust reporting, vigorous vetting, and the wisdom of the world’s top investors and entrepreneurs, Forbes evaluated more than 15,000 nominees. The final product: 600 revolutionaries in 20 industries changing the course—and the face—of business and society.

“I am beyond grateful to be among this distinguished group of emerging leaders who are driving innovation and transforming society across all categories,” said Horgan. “It’s a tremendous validation of our mission and the growing recognition that science can and must move forward at a faster pace for patients all over the world who need solutions, now.”
